A WORD FROM MAYA ANGELOU

I ran up on this poem from Maya Angelou. Hope you find it as enlightening as I do!

'A woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ
That a man should have to seek Him first to find her.'

When I say.... 'I am a Christian' I'm not shouting 'I'm clean living,'
I'm whispering 'I was lost, Now I'm found and forgiven.'

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say. 'I am a Christian' I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible, but God believes I am worth it.

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I still feel the sting of pain...
I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner Who received God's good grace, somehow!

I’ll add my few little words of wisdom from Chapter 2 of my book:
The more you love and respect yourself, the more power you will have. The key purpose in life is self-discovery. Know who you are. Many people think that once they know what they want, they know who they are. But it’s not until one knows what they have to give that they know who they really are.

Fulfilling your life’s true purpose, which ultimately is self-discovery, requires developing a higher consciousness or of becoming more self aware, enhancing your self-image. Your self-image is the belief you have of yourself, an evaluation of your capabilities and personal worth, which can only be found from within.

THE PURPOSE AND POWER OF WOMAN

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life
and you will call it fate”
– Carl Jung

Woman is a God-idea. Adam was fumbling around in the bushes, naming animals and God said, “This is not good, this man needs some help!" Adam hadn’t even envisioned the woman, but God already had woman in mind when He decided, “It is not good for man to be alone. I will make a companion who will help him”.

Now the operative word here is “make”. The biblical story goes that man was formed of the dust of the earth. If you look at the real meaning of the word formed, it means to mold as a potter molds clay. However, God made the woman, which literally means to “build or construct”.
When something is built or constructed, there are certain components that are added for a sturdy foundation. The ingredients of intuition, influence, femininity and compassion are components our Creator used as the foundation of woman which provides her strength and power.

As a woman in today’s world, we all have to learn to take advantage of the distinct characteristics and uniqueness that we are.

  • A woman’s intuition causes her to have direct perception of truth, to have immediate understanding, and a keen and quick insight. However, trusting and believing that your intuition will not fail you is difficult, because it means you must be totally devoted to your self-development.
  • To have influence produces effects on the actions, behavior and opinions of others and provides an opportunity to exercise a woman’s power of persuasion. An accurate example of this is in the Garden of Eden:
"… the woman was convinced. The fruit looked so fresh and delicious, and it would make her so wise! So she ate some of the fruit. She also gave some to her husband who was with her. Then he ate it too."
Eve used her influence to get Adam to eat the golden apple offered by the serpent and create the basis for an entire people to fall into disfavor with God and to the lower levels of earthly existence.

  • A woman’s God-given femininity inspires others to want to be around her.. This woman walks in the poise and polish that is unmatched by those who don’t know who they are. Your femininity enhances your agreeable qualities, which is the most effective way you communicate your capabilities and how you honor yourself.
  • The built-in compassion a woman possesses causes her to have a deep awareness of and sympathy for another’s pain that carries with it a strong desire to alleviate the suffering. The need to nurture others is built into the DNA of woman and embraces all the things that make her feel all female.

Whether or not you acknowledge that strength and power built into you will determine who you are and who you are to become.

How to find your purpose in life and make your life fulfilling? Be delighted with who you really are, you’ll have the desires of your heart. In other words, by feeding your inner Spirit, you open up a continual pipeline of counsel, instruction and guidance to lead you to your Divine destiny. When you do that, you will never have to feel an emptiness or lack of purpose again.

A Bahamian Pastor, Dr. Myles Munroe often says, “Life without purpose is an experiment.” Amen to that! Tell me what you think.
